Photo- and thermoresponsive polymersomes for triggered release.
Microfluidics: Thermo- and photoresponsive polymersomes are assembled using capillary microfluidic devices. Encapsulants can be selectively released from the thermoresponsive polymersomes if they are incubated at and above temperatures of 40 °C, whereas the photoresponsive polymersomes selectively release encapsulants if illuminated with laser light (see picture; NP = nanoparticle).
متن کاملSprites triggered by negative lightning discharges
High altitude air breakdown, manifested as “red sprites,” is reported in close association with negative cloudto-ground lightning (−CG) on at least two occasions above an unusual storm on August 29, 1998. Data from high speed photometry, low-light-level video, and receivers of lightning electromagnetic signatures in the frequency range 10 Hz to 20 kHz are used to establish the association and i...
متن کاملMaterial-specific Conversion Factors for Different Solid Phantoms Used in the Dosimetry of Different Brachytherapy Sources
Introduction Based on Task Group No. 43 (TG-43U1) recommendations, water phantom is proposed as a reference phantom for the dosimetry of brachytherapy sources. The experimental determination of TG-43 parameters is usually performed in water-equivalent solid phantoms. The purpose of this study was to determine the conversion factors for equalizing solid phantoms to water. Materials and Methods T...
متن کاملCarbon-Based Materials for Photo-Triggered Theranostic Applications.
Carbon-based nanomaterials serve as a type of smart material for photo-triggered disease theranostics. The inherent physicochemical properties of these nanomaterials facilitate their use for less invasive treatments. This review summarizes the properties and applications of materials including fullerene, nanotubes, nanohorns, nanodots and nanographenes for photodynamic nanomedicine in cancer an...
متن کاملVOCs, pesticides, nitrate, and their mixtures in groundwater used for drinking water in the United States.
Samples of untreated groundwater from 1255 domestic drinking-water wells and 242 public supply wells were analyzed as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment Program of the U.S. Geological Survey between 1992 and 1999. Wells were sampled to define the regional quality of the groundwater resource and, thus, were distributed geographically across large aquifers, primarily in rural areas. Fo...
